Can Asian people, Chinese, Japanese, be blind?

I don't mean to sound racist in anyway but I'm wondering if there's a gene they carry that would allow for blindness or not. I know white people can be blind, and maybe an Asian person CAN go blind, but I don't recall ever seeing a blind Chinese person in my life.
