I am thinking of converting my vs commodore to gas. Do they run alright on gas?

With the unbelivable cost of petrol my husband and I have been talking about taking advantage of the $2000 government rebate, but I was told today by my mother in law, who was told by someone who converts cars to gas, that VS and VT commodores have serious problems when they are put on gas because the engines can't cope with the temperature the gas burns at. Can anyone in the know or who've had it done please let me know.
